MIS were one of the first companies to use drones for visual inspections and now also can perform thickness testing (UTM) with drones. We have years of experience with the technology and conducting surveys in the harsh environments found in tanks. MIS have company approval with UK CAA and all operators are qualified and registered with UK CAA. We are approved by ABS, DNV and LR for RIT (remote inspection techniques) to use drone to perform visual inspection as an alternative means for close-up survey. This can result in huge saving on cost and time on traditional staging of tanks and the whole process is much safer. We are also approved by ABS, DNV and LR to perform thickness measurements (UTM) using drone.
Our inspectors have years of experience in structural surveys and are then trained and qualified in using drones. This results in high quality, accurate inspections and reports.
We use tethered drones which give unlimited flight time and allow for an in depth inspection. The UAV's 4K camera provides exceptional image quality, allowing defects and cracks to be identified with a high degree of accuracy and confidence. This high resolution can be viewed live in a remote location via a portal and data is then analysed and presented in a comprehensive report, tailored to the requirements of the client.
MIS have been working together with Altera Infrastructure (Maran Shuttle Tankers) and ScoutDI on the “Redhaus project” which is a Norwegian research project focusing on developing automated ship inspections using autonomous droes and AI, which was successfully completed.
