Marine Inspection Services (MIS) is proud to introduce Mini ROV inspection as the latest addition to our comprehensive suite of marine inspection capabilities. Building on our established expertise in Drone Inspection, Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement and NDT, we now deploy the EXRAY™ by Hydromea — one of the most advanced mini underwater inspection robots available — to carry out class-approved inspections.
MIS holds approval from both Bureau Veritas (BV) and Det Norske Veritas (DNV) for Remote Inspection Techniques (RIT) using Mini ROV. This means our Mini ROV surveys can be used as a direct, class-accepted alternative to traditional close-up & UTM surveys requiring manned entry and staging — delivering significant savings in time, cost and risk.
Our inspectors bring years of structural survey experience alongside specialist training in ROV operations, ensuring that every inspection produces high-quality, accurate data and a comprehensive report tailored to the requirements of owners, managers and class surveyors.

Mini ROV Inspection Capabilities - Ballast Tank Inspection |
Ballast tank inspections form a critical part of class renewal and special surveys. Traditionally these require extensive staging, cleaning and manned entry — a process that is costly, time-consuming and potentially hazardous. Our Mini ROV offers a fully class-accepted alternative.
The EXRAY™ ROV navigates the full internal structure of ballast tanks, capturing Full HD video and 4K still imagery of all structural members, frames, brackets, longitudinals and coating condition. Live video is streamed directly to the attending class surveyor, enabling real-time assessment and decision-making from a safe location.
| Mini ROV - Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement (UTM) |
In addition to visual inspection, MIS is approved by BV and DNV to conduct Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement (UTM) using the Mini ROV. This allows steel thickness readings to be obtained throughout a ballast tank without the need for manned entry, drastically reducing the risk to personnel and the time required to complete a survey.
UTM data collected by the EXRAY™ ROV is integrated into detailed thickness measurement reports aligned to class requirements.
